Laying Out the Golden Decade of China’s Ice and Snow Industry – The Ice and Snow Conference to Be Held in Beijing in December

Laying out the “Golden Decade” of China’s ice and snow industry and pursuing a “localization” development strategy through integration and mutual benefit, the 2017 China International Ice and Snow Industry Conference, organized by LingShuo Group and co-hosted by the Beijing Ski Association and the Beijing Sports Industry Association, will grandly open in Beijing from December 6 to 8.
Since the 2022 Winter Olympics was awarded to Zhangjiakou, the ice and snow industry has encountered unprecedented development opportunities. In November last year, the National Development and Reform Commission, together with multiple ministries, issued the “Ice and Snow Sports Development Plan (2016–2025)” and the “National Ice and Snow Facilities Construction Plan (2016–2022),” providing strong support for the healthy development of the ice and snow industry in terms of policy backing, education promotion, infrastructure construction, and institutional reform. Meanwhile, domestic enterprises have also begun laying out the ice and snow sports industry, striving to achieve a total scale of one trillion yuan for China’s ice and snow industry by 2025.
In 2016, various provinces and cities in China introduced long-term development plans for the winter sports industry, encouraging more people to participate in ice and snow activities. The market size of ski resort operations and personal skiing equipment alone reached tens of billions of yuan. According to the “Ice and Snow Industry Development Research Report” and the “China Ski Industry White Paper,” the average growth rate of skiers in China over the past five years has been between 20% and 30%. Seizing the opportunity of preparing for the Winter Olympics, ski resorts in Beijing, Zhangjiakou, and other areas will strengthen event marketing and host various internationally standardized ice and snow sports competitions over the next 6 to 10 years. With the industrial agglomeration effect brought by major events, the Winter Olympics will serve as a catalyst for the clustered development of the skiing industry and provide an opportunity for the internationalization of “Made in China” in the skiing sector. At the same time, China’s ice and snow tourism has entered a new phase that emphasizes creativity, content, and experience, and new models such as “ice and snow tourism+” are also among the future development hotspots.
However, China’s ice and snow industry still faces challenges such as a weak supply-side structure, a shortage of professional technical talent, a lack of industry data, and insufficient strength of domestic equipment brands.
Against this backdrop, the 2017 China International Ice and Snow Industry Conference will invite over 400 participants from government agencies, industry associations, tourism bureaus, ice and snow venue operators and designers, clubs, capital firms, specialized colleges, equipment and gear suppliers, software consultants, and other organizations. They will interpret ongoing and planned projects in China’s ice and snow industry on-site, share outstanding domestic and international project cases, and jointly discuss and provide practical solutions to industry pain points during the rapid development of China’s ice and snow industry.
The conference will span three days, and its innovative format creates a comprehensive platform for the innovative development of ice and snow enterprises, featuring multi-perspective content, shared themes, and tailored needs. The first day will feature a main forum aimed at discussing the ecosystem of China’s ice and snow industry, international cooperation, and “Chinese-style” innovation. The second day will include two sub-forums: “Exploring Innovative Management Models for Ice and Snow Venue Operations” and “Establishing a Sustainable Mechanism for Ice and Snow Talent Development.” The third day will organize invited guests to visit distinctive ice and snow towns and outstanding ski resorts. The organizing committee has also carefully arranged a variety of innovative formats and content, including expert summit dialogues, roundtable discussions, the “Ice and Snow Pioneers” awards ceremony, VIP welcome dinners, lucky draws, project roadshows and investment matchmaking sessions, exhibition area tours, and one-on-one business meetings. These efforts aim to create an international cooperation platform focusing on the entire ice and snow industry chain, and to boost the collective effort to realize the grand vision of “300 million people participating in ice and snow sports”!
