The Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism participated in the “2019 NATAS Singapore Autumn Travel Fair” from August 2 to 4, 2019, promoting Taipei through five urban cultural & lifestyle districts.

Experience the city’s rich allure—explore “the Taipei you’ve never seen”!

At the event, Liu Yiting, Director of Taipei City’s Department of Information and Tourism, stated that Southeast Asia has become Taiwan’s second-largest source of tourists. From 2016 to 2018, the return rate of Singaporean visitors exceeded 40%, while Malaysian tourist numbers to Taiwan have been rising year by year. As the nation’s capital, Taipei, with its metropolitan charm, is home to a wealth of human stories, and its diverse themed market culture is one of the reasons attracting repeat visits from Star-Malaysian travelers. Taipei’s traditional and innovative markets each have their unique appeal—such as the fabric market at Dihua Street’s Yongle Market, the sundry goods of Dihua Street, the creative market at Ximending’s Red House, the simple market at Sisiman Village, various night markets known for food, and holiday flower and jade markets like those at Jianguo—among others. For this promotion, Taipei’s distinctive markets were used to link the five cultural & lifestyle districts: Wanhua/Mengjia, Dadaocheng, Chengbei Corridor, Chengnan/NTU, and Beitou. Each district showcases a unique urban character, allowing travelers to visit them over multiple days via a “one-day trip” format, creating a fresh travel experience unlike any before.

Star-Malaysia Creative Geniuses Namewee & Wan Wei Ru Take You on a Taipei Adventure

Every street corner in Taipei has its own unique story. This year, the Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism invited Malaysian creative genius Namewee and Singaporean creative talent Wan Wei Ru to serve as its Star-Malaysia Tourism Ambassadors. They were also invited to create impromptu “fabric collage” artworks at the promotion to express their memories of Taipei. Namewee, who studied in Taipei, presented a piece titled “Taipei—My Home,” depicting the small attic where he lived during his student days in the urban jungle. A yellow light shone from the window—a little Taipei nest that was his home. Namewee shared anecdotes from his life in Taipei and expressed his joy at being appointed Taipei’s Star-Malaysia Tourism Ambassador for the third consecutive year because he loves the city so much. Meanwhile, Wan Wei Ru, a singer under HIM International Music who frequently resides in Taipei for work, described herself as a “foodie.” She moved her Taipei home next to a night market because she loves Taipei’s street food. She also feels that for a girl far from home, living near a night market is a form of happiness and comfort. Thus, her collage artwork theme was “Taipei Night Market Snacks—Pearl Milk Tea with Fried Chicken Cutlet.” The fun creations and witty banter between Namewee and Wan Wei Ru brought plenty of laughter to the event and sparked boundless imagination among Star-Malaysian audiences about Taipei.

Director Liu Yiting said both ambassadors created collages using fabrics from Taipei’s Yongle Market to express their feelings toward the city. He also welcomed Star-Malaysian travelers to visit Taipei often, just like them, and write their own urban stories with Taipei. Additionally, Namewee was invited by Director Liu Yiting to produce a 2019 promotional video for the Department of Information and Tourism, aiming to attract more Star-Malaysian and international tourists to Taipei.

Mr. Cheong Tuon Wah, General Manager of Singapore Branch, China Airlines, also prepared a surprise for attending journalists and travel industry professionals: a free round-trip ticket between Singapore and Taipei. Meanwhile, the event site also featured an eco-friendly cup tote screen-printing experience, which was well-received by guests. As both Singapore and Taipei are green cities, the eco-cup tote activity attracted significant interest.

Free Add-Ons for Independent Travelers: Air + Hotel Deals + Exclusive Taipei Benefits Card

For the three-day “2019 NATAS Singapore Autumn Travel Fair,” the Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism specially prepared a variety of unique cultural and creative items and mascot Brownie souvenirs... to be given to participants engaging in interactive games at the Taiwan Pavilion’s Taipei booth. Those joining stage activities had the chance to try DIY screen-printing and take home their own eco-friendly cup tote. To further tap into the independent travel market in Star-Malaysia, the Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism also partnered with China Airlines to launch a special “independent travel air + hotel package” at SGD 435. Additionally, the first 100 travelers received extra gifts, including “An Shun Travel Agency airport pick-up service (from Taoyuan Airport to downtown Taipei),” “a 5-day SIM card,” “a box of mini pineapple cakes from Shin Hsin Fang,” “Moriya cosmetics face masks,” and an “Exclusive Taipei Benefits Cool Card for ‘The Taipei You’ve Never Seen.’” Attendees at the fair are encouraged to take advantage of this great value package!
