Typhoon Approaching Guishan Island: Island Closed for 3 Days; Seven Major Attractions Across Taiwan Halted

Typhoon Lekima is affecting Taiwan and has intensified into a strong typhoon. The Central Weather Bureau issued a land typhoon warning on August 8. Many scenic areas and forest recreation zones have preemptively announced closures or even temporary shutdowns as strict typhoon precautions.

Guishan Island
Due to the impact of the typhoon, and based on meteorological forecasts predicting that from August 8 to 10 the typhoon will come relatively close to Taiwan—with average wind speeds exceeding Force 6 and generating big to rough waves along the coastal areas of Su’ao, Yilan—the island will be closed from August 8 to 10 for three days.

Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival
The ongoing “Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival” has implemented enhanced typhoon prevention measures. On the morning of August 7, large backdrops, wooden walkways, and nighttime sand sculpture lighting facilities were urgently removed. From the afternoon of August 7 to August 9, the Fulong sand sculptures, beach areas, and seaside zones were closed to the public, and all surrounding events were suspended.

Longdong Bay Marine Park
Longdong Bay Marine Park has temporarily suspended all water recreation activities due to the approaching typhoon. The park will be closed to the public from August 7 to August 9, with further decisions on whether to reopen on August 10 and 11 to be determined based on conditions.

Longdong Four Seasons Bay
The park will be closed for two days on August 8 and 9, with no accommodation provided.
 
Yanliao Beach Park (Blue Bay Seaside Recreation Area)
Open as normal in the morning of August 8, closed in the afternoon.
 
Fulong Beach
Closed when a sea warning is in effect.
 
Taroko National Forest Recreation Area
Taroko National Forest Recreation Area stopped admitting visitors starting at 9:00 AM on August 8. The recreation area began preemptive closure at 12:00 PM on August 8, and the frequency of the park’s Benshi train service has also been reduced and adjusted.
