Popular indie bands take the stage: Top 5 outdoor music festivals in the second half of 2019

Can't get enough of the indie music extravaganza that was the Awakening Music Festival in July? The second half of 2019 still has many grand outdoor music festivals worth visiting—not just the Gongliao Ocean Music Festival and world-class events like the World Electronic Music Festival. From mainstream, indie, to electronic music, the second half of the year is packed with excitement.

1.Gongliao Ocean Music Festival
An eagerly anticipated summer music event, this year’s festival features three days of non-stop performances at Fulong Beach. This year, numerous top-tier celebrities and both domestic and international indie bands will take the stage, including Wu Qingfeng, 831, Laoband, Tizzy Bac, Meixiu Group, Mr. Wolf, as well as three groups that have previously won the Ocean Music Grand Prize—MATZKA & Di Hot, Totem, and BOXING forming “So It Turns Out.” Additionally, there will be nine international indie bands from Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Switzerland, plus the top 10 finalists competing in the Ocean Indie Music Grand Prize.

2.Chasing Light Festival
Following their collaboration with Dongfeng Music Festival in 2018, Mixing Studio is now organizing its own ticketed music festival. They sourced the venue, partners, and sponsors themselves to create a music event unique to Hsinchu—a celebration of bands, beer, food, local culture, and art that brings back the grassroots spirit of rock music.
 
Performing acts include: Hormone Boys, Obvious Band, Mystery Strangers, I Mean Us, INFERNAL CHAOS, Blood Juice Machine, Huang Zixuan & Shanpingkuai, Chen Wanling, Suixin, Dawn Light Corridor, Mayday, Chen Xianjing, Wang Shuiyuan, Fat Panic, Atomic Betty, Sweet John, Wei Ruyun, and 31 other performing groups.

3. Laugh Out Loud Rock Music Festival
Three days and nights of continuous fun across five stages, right next to Leofoo Village Theme Park—you can play and listen all in one go with an all-access pass. Featuring 11 internationally renowned bands from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, the UK, and more, 50 carefully selected Taiwanese bands, and 12 idol groups—including Eggplant Egg, Elephant Gym, Mary See the Future, Sorry Youth, Dawn Light Corridor, Suixin Band, Heartbroken to Death, Empty ORio, Vast & Hazy, Laoband, Meixiu Group, 88 Balaz, Sunset Samurai, Fat Tiger, 55cm, 13th Tribe, Nancy Ken, Girls and Robots, Sweet John, Crispy Band, Wu Peiya, P!SCO, and many more.

4.Creamfields TaiwanCreamfields
The UK’s longest-running classic party brand, Creamfields, is the world’s most popular outdoor electronic music festival. For the third time, it’s making a splash in Taiwan, maintaining the high standards of the previous two years. In addition to inviting global acts like The Chainsmokers, Dutch duo W&W, and Andrew Rayel, the lineup also includes Slushii known for Dubstep and Bass, “Rebellious Bad Boy” Ben Nicky, the first Chinese DJ to break into the DJ Mag Top 100—Carta, and electronic music heartthrob Dannic. Together, they promise a fresh and exciting party for Taiwan’s EDM fans.
