Taiwan’s first-ever mobile art gallery: Ride the ultra-stylish painted train through Jiji

The entire banana-yellow-themed Jiji Branch Line painted train, “National Jiji Art Museum,” debuted at Shulin Station. The train interior blends bold design styles with historically meaningful displays, making it Taiwan’s first-ever “mobile art museum.”

The train sparked online discussion after it was revealed that the leopard cat image used was actually a leopard—not an original drawing but purchased from an online stock image library—drawing extra attention as a result.

The train carriages feature the mountain banana, a Jiji specialty, as the main visual color, and incorporate important historical records of the Jiji Line, along with content on Jiji railway tourism and fun facts about bananas. These elements run throughout the entire train, transforming the Jiji Branch Line train into a beautiful work of art that showcases the diverse charm of Jiji.

However, Катя Молодцова, the original artist of the “leopard cat image” used in the train, pointed out that the picture actually depicts a leopard. Despite the designer having legally purchased the illustration for use, she still felt it was inappropriate to use a leopard image as a leopard cat.
