The tropical depression formed into Typhoon Bailu (international name: BAILU) on the afternoon of the 21st. It is currently a mild typhoon, with its center located at 15.6°N, 132.3°E, moving northwest at a speed of 16 km per hour.

Typhoon Bailu has a central pressure of 998 hPa, with maximum near-center wind speeds of 18 m/s and maximum instantaneous gusts of 25 m/s. The radius of the 7-level gale is 100 km. Currently, Bailu is heading toward Taiwan and may become a “direct-hit typhoon.” All forecasts predict that Saturday (August 24) will see the greatest impact on Taiwan. Those with travel or overseas plans for the weekend should pay close attention to weather developments.

A low-pressure area can be seen off the coast of South China on satellite imagery, and its convection is causing more unstable weather in southern Taiwan.
Affected by the low-pressure system, short-term heavy rainfall is likely. Brief showers or thunderstorms are expected across Taiwan, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, with a chance of localized heavier rainfall in the afternoon. On the 22nd, southern regions as well as Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu will still see localized brief showers or thunderstorms, while other areas will be mostly cloudy to sunny, with localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon.

This week, UV levels across Taiwan are all at high to excessive levels.
In terms of temperature, highs in central and southern Taiwan will be around 30–31°C, and 32–33°C in the north and eastern parts. When it’s not raining, the heat feels more oppressive, and UV levels across the country remain high to excessive, so sun protection is essential when going out.
On the 22nd, southern regions will have localized brief showers or thunderstorms, southeastern areas will see localized brief showers, and other regions will be mostly cloudy to sunny. In the afternoon, there will be localized brief thunderstorms in central and northern areas as well as mountainous regions in the east, with a higher chance of heavier rainfall in the western half of the country. There may also be scattered brief showers along the central coastal areas from morning to midday.
