Tropical Depression No. 17 has the potential to develop into a typhoon. At 8:00 AM on August 26, its center was located at 13.0°N, 131.5°E, moving west-northwest at 19 km/h. The central pressure was 1002 hPa, with maximum sustained winds of 15 m/s near the center and gusts up to 23 m/s.

The weather bureau stated that this tropical depression located over the eastern sea of the Philippines may develop into Typhoon Podul (No. 12), with a chance of formation on Tuesday or Wednesday. The weather will be sunny and hot before Thursday, with strong convective rain in some areas, and conditions will change after Thursday.
