Taiwan’s World-Class New Landmark Adds One More: The Most Beautiful Library Hidden in a Park

Following the National Taichung Theater, Taichung has another world-class new landmark — “Taichung Greentopia”! It aims to create a library in a park and an art museum in a forest for the city of Taichung, integrating cultural and artistic architecture into nature. This Greentopia is scheduled to commence construction on September 16, 2019, and be completed and open in 2022.

 Taichung Greentopia is co-designed by internationally renowned Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, founders of the Pritzker Prize-winning limited company SANAA, along with Taiwan-based architect Liu Peisen. The plan is for an “integrated dual-venue” arts space consisting of eight white buildings that combine a library and an art museum. It will be located at the northern end of the Central Park within the Shuiguang Economic and Trade Park.

However, Taichung Greentopia has gone through multiple failed bidding attempts. Thanks to the efforts of the municipal government team, the project schedule was finally finalized in June 2019. The Japanese firm SANAA also came to Taiwan specifically to explain the design and construction details. On the groundbreaking day, the two Japanese master architects will personally visit Taiwan to share the vision behind Taichung Greentopia. We look forward to Greentopia becoming another world-class landmark for Taiwan upon completion, not only beautifying the cityscape of Taichung but also bringing residents and travelers from around the world a brand-new experience that blends urban life with nature.
