1. Qingtian Gang
The Qingtian Gang grassland on Yangmingshan has long been a famous large grassland in Taipei. The cattle are over 20 feral water buffaloes that were once released for grazing and were never reclaimed, having since bred in the wild. Last year, the trail was closed due to a wild buffalo collision incident, but after a year, it has finally reopened with newly planned pedestrian pathways and designated cattle areas. A “people-and-cattle separation” safety design has been implemented, allowing visitors to closely admire the sight of cattle strolling by.

2. Buffalo Pit
Linke Buffalo Pit is a popular hidden grazing grassland spot that has gained attention on social media in recent years. On the West Coast Expressway heading toward Bali, near the Linkou Power Plant section, there is a unique landscape of steep earthen cliffs known as the Linkou Grand Canyon. On clear days, you might spot herds of cattle being grazed by local farmers in the afternoon. This serene and unusual scenery attracts many travelers.

3. Taoyuan Valley Trail
Located at the junction of Gongliao in New Taipei and Yilan, along the tail ridge of the Snow Mountain Range, the Taoyuan Valley Trail features a continuous gentle slope of green grass stretching 3 kilometers with an incline of nearly 30 degrees. To the west, you can see Sandiao Ridge, and to the east lies the Pacific Ocean. Taoyuan Valley was historically a place for grazing cattle during the agricultural off-season, also known as Big Cattle Paddock. Even today, you can still see grazing cattle or those lying on the grass sunbathing, all exuding a laid-back vibe.

Walking along the trail or resting with the cattle on the grass, the vast view and cool mountain breeze can help melt away the stress of daily life, making it very healing. However, a reminder: although the cattle may appear gentle, maintain a safe distance, avoid provoking them, and do not use flash photography. Mutual respect ensures a relaxed and joyful holiday experience.
