Lingling heads north and moves inland – explosive rains hit Northern, Central, and Eastern Taiwan with unstable weather nationwide

Typhoon Lingling has intensified into a medium typhoon and continues to move northward. The Central Weather Bureau has issued heavy rain warnings for the Northern, Central, and Eastern regions as well as Yilan. Weather across Taiwan remains unstable, so carry an umbrella when going out and stay alert for safety.

Typhoon Lingling (No. 13) has intensified into a medium typhoon. At 4 a.m. on the 5th, its center was located 440 kilometers southeast of Taipei over the sea, moving north at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour. The maximum wind speed at its center reached 40 meters per second, equivalent to a strong typhoon (Force 13), with a 7-level storm radius of 180 kilometers. By 4 a.m. on the 6th, it will be positioned 410 kilometers northeast of Taipei over the sea.

Due to the influence of the typhoon’s peripheral circulation, brief showers, thunderstorms, and localized heavy or torrential rain are expected in western and northeastern Taiwan. Eastern and southeastern Taiwan as well as outlying islands will also experience brief showers and thunderstorms. Unstable weather will persist across the country through tomorrow.

Although the typhoon is relatively far from Taiwan, there is a chance of high waves along the eastern half, southern regions, Keelung’s northern coast, and the Penghu and Matsu areas. Stronger gusts are also likely in open coastal areas of the eastern and northern parts of Taiwan, as well as in the Hengchun Peninsula, Kinmen, and Matsu. Exercise caution during seaside activities.
