Niaoyeh Shrine. (Photo / tintinghi)
Niaoyeh Shrine is an unranked shrine that was originally built in Longtian Village to enshrine the Three Gods of Pioneering (Ōkuninushi-no-Mikoto, Sukunabikona-no-Kami, and Ōnamuchi-no-Kami) and Prince Kitashirakawa Yoshihisa. It was jointly constructed by Japanese immigrants in Niaoyeh Village through voluntary labor, making it the first shrine in Taiwan completed through a cooperative effort between Taiwanese and Japanese craftsmen. Built in 1923 during the Japanese colonial period, the architecture is quite simple, consisting only of the main hall, torii gate, and temizuya (hand-washing pavilion).
