1. Hokkaido – Jozankei Onsen Snow Illumination Road (A Winter Fantasy of Light)
Located in the suburbs of Sapporo, the “Jozankei Onsen Snow Illumination Road” is a snow candle event held at the Jozankei Shrine, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2020. The candlelight from 2,000 snow lanterns surrounding the shrine creates a fantastical Japanese-style winter atmosphere.

Every year at this time, hotels and inns decorate with snow candles as a gesture of hospitality, symbolizing “gathering together to share joy.” At the venue, there is the annual tradition of the “Lamp of Wishes,” where it’s said that if visitors make a wish and light a candle, then carry it to the snow tower and place it without it going out, their wish will come true.
