Two-day free market with food, photo ops, performances & fun – endorsed by Yen Ching-lan and A-Fu for eco-art!

The 8th annual Taichung Eco-Art Festival is taking place on September 28 and 29 at the open space at the intersection of Municipal North 2nd Road and Section 3 of Henan Road. In addition to artworks made from recycled materials, it will feature an exclusive 160cm-tall “Formosan Clouded Leopard Hug” sculpture created in Taichung, along with pop music performances and family-friendly musicals that combine music, art, and environmentalism to promote inclusive family activities and green, sustainable education.

This year’s theme, “Art Hugs the Earth,” features Soda Green band leader Afu as the curator, along with special guest performance by Yen Ching-lan. Nearly 20 rising indie bands will also take the stage. The stage itself is built from repurposed factory wood pallets and bamboo.

Additionally, the festival has invited the champion of Taichung’s Top 10 Bubble Tea Festival, “Brown Sugar Black Jade Latte,” which also won two major popular awards. There’s also the “Black Gold Ice” exclusively sold by WHC Heiwo in collaboration with 2010 World Ice Cream Champion Luc Debove — a silky sorbet featuring the refined flavor of premium Geisha coffee, complemented by sweet notes of pineapple and mango, with a refreshing and smooth texture.

The event site is divided into eight themed zones with exciting performances and plenty of family-friendly activities, such as the Eco-Art Carnival and DIY workshops in the “Zero-Waste Living Experience Zone.” Other highlights include the “Reborn General Store,” “Dream Auction Merchant,” “Good Moment Market,” and a floral-themed Dress Code Party.

A major highlight of this year’s artworks is the outdoor installation “Formosan Clouded Leopard Hug,” which will be unveiled on September 23. By hugging the clouded leopard sculpture, visitors are encouraged not only to embrace their loved ones but also to cherish the precious resources of the earth, passing on the concept of sustainability to the next generation.
