The China Climbing League is China’s premier climbing league based on a points system, organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Mountaineering Association. It aims to provide a broader competitive platform for more professional athletes and to establish the highest-standard and most widely publicized climbing league in China. As the inaugural event of the 2018 China Climbing League, the Gansu Jiangu Construction First Cup in Lanzhou Anning set a strong foundation for the league. The exceptional technical skills displayed by the competitors allowed tens of thousands of spectators to deeply appreciate the allure of climbing, delivering a spectacular visual feast to the public in the peak of summer and showcasing the new face of cultural, sports, and tourism development in Anning.

This event featured a rich variety of categories and competition formats, including men's all-around, men's speed climbing, women's all-around, and women's speed climbing. In the all-around events, athletes competed in speed climbing, bouldering, and lead climbing, with their final scores calculated by multiplying their rankings in the three events—the lower the product, the better the result. After three days of intense competition, a total of 12 awards were presented. The men's all-around champion was Song Hualong from the Guangdong Climbing Club, with Qu Haibin from the Hunan National Training Team and Li Xinghui from the Guangdong Climbing Club taking second and third place, respectively. The women's all-around champion was Pema Yuzhen from the Tibet Autonomous Region National Training Team, with Chen Zhuoying from the Fujian Tieguanyin National Training Team and Xiang Hongchun from the Hunan National Training Team finishing as runners-up and third-place winners, respectively. The men's speed climbing champions were Chen Zhixing from the Fujian Tieguanyin National Training Team (gold), Yan Ruihong from the Shandong Printron National Training Team (silver), and Chilie Danzeng from the Tibet Autonomous Region National Training Team (bronze). The women's speed climbing winners were Li Xiaoyu from the Hunan National Training Team (gold), Chen Zhuoying from the Fujian Tieguanyin National Training Team (silver), and Xiang Hongchun from the Hunan National Training Team (bronze). The torch-passing ceremony for the next stop of the 2018 China Climbing League was held by Zhang Jibin, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Anning District Committee and Executive Deputy District Head of the People’s Government of Anning District, Lanzhou City, who handed the flag to Wang Bing, representative of the next host city Guangzhou Zengcheng. The league lives up to its slogan: “Climbing knows no bounds,” forever vibrant and passed from one stop to the next!
