On June 28th, the four-day 2018 Asia Outdoor Exhibition officially kicked off at the Nanjing International Expo Center. At 3:30 PM, the launch event for the revolutionary Yubennuan insulation material was held on Stage 7A. Yubennuan new material engineer Zhong Feipeng shared the powerful advantages of this groundbreaking insulation material with attendees and answered their questions on the spot. After the presentation, Mr. Zhong also gave an interview to further elaborate on what makes Yubennuan fabric unique.

Yubennuan New Material Engineer Zhong Feipeng

Q: Please briefly introduce Yubennuan.

Zhong Feipeng:Yubennuan is a revolutionary innovative thermal resistance material, consisting of polyester fiber base fabrics on both sides and a thermal resistance material in between. It is the thinnest, lightest, and most thermally efficient super material in global clothing insulation. Yubennuan is both dry-cleanable and washable and can be used as insulation in garments, tents, gloves, and other products.

Q: Can Yubennuan replace down or synthetic fiber wadding as insulation?

Zhong Feipeng:In a test we commissioned from a third-party professional organization, Yubennuan with a thickness of 1.5 mm achieved a clo value of 1.345—equivalent to the insulation performance of a thin down jacket 6–7 mm thick or synthetic fiber wadding 3 cm thick. In other words, for the same level of warmth, Yubennuan is only 1/5 the thickness of a down jacket. This offers huge appeal to consumers who are tired of bulky winter wear and want clothing that is thinner, lighter, and more stylish.

Also, as we know, down jackets impose many limitations on fabric choices due to the need to maintain insulation and prevent down leakage, which also restricts fashion options. Yubennuan, however, can not only serve as an inner filling but also be combined with other fabrics for more innovations, offering greater flexibility in fashion design.

Therefore, Yubennuan will definitely become a mainstream insulation material in the future, although it won’t completely replace down or synthetic fiber wadding. Instead, it will lead a new trend that will reduce the use of those materials—though primarily limited by current production capacity.

Q: Will the production limitations you mentioned be resolved through technological breakthroughs in the future?

Zhong Feipeng:In fact, our research has long been completed, and we’ve successfully secured a national patent. The international patent application process is currently underway, and we expect it to be finalized soon. Afterward, we’ll scale up production. But as the world’s only manufacturer, Yubennuan’s production volume simply cannot meet all market demand—especially as more customers and consumers learn about its benefits of being lightweight, warm, and eco-friendly. The market gap will only grow larger. My estimate is that production constraints will remain a major challenge for the next 8–10 years.

Q: What fields is Yubennuan mainly used in?

Zhong Feipeng:We chose to launch Yubennuan at this Asia Outdoor Exhibition because our product pairs exceptionally well with outdoor apparel. Outdoor activities often lead to wet clothes due to rain, sweat, rafting, wading, and other factors. Down jackets lose insulation when damp, and synthetic fibers offer weak windproofing and low warmth. Yet Yubennuan maintains excellent insulation even when wet, solving one of the most common issues faced by outdoor enthusiasts. Of course, beyond outdoor apparel, Yubennuan can also be effectively used in everyday clothing and military uniforms.

And aside from clothing, shoes also require warmth, breathability, and comfort even when damp. The addition of Yubennuan is sure to bring big surprises to those troubled by these issues.

Additionally, it can be applied to car ceilings. The interior of a car under scorching summer sun can get extremely stuffy, but adding Yubennuan can significantly lower the cabin temperature.

Beyond that, it can also be used for insulation in refrigerators, for warmth and soundproofing in wallpaper, and for eavesdropping prevention in curtains... In short, Yubennuan can span multiple fields.

Q: As a new material, how does Yubennuan differ from other new materials like graphene or heating fibers?

Zhong Feipeng:Graphene is a widely applicable material with great prospects, but its use in clothing is currently still limited to the “electric heating” stage, which may not be very convenient. Many heating fibers generate heat by absorbing moisture emitted by the human body, which can lead to inconsistent performance... A lot of new materials are not yet fully mature in technology or have limitations in applicable areas. In contrast, Yubennuan holds significant advantages in the textile and apparel field.

Q: What are your expectations for the future development of Yubennuan?

Zhong Feipeng:I’m confident that once Yubennuan enters the market, it will make a huge impact on consumers. We’ll let them first experience its thinness and warmth, and once they feel it, word-of-mouth will accelerate, leading more people to learn about and accept our product.

Additionally, from the start of R&D, we prioritized environmental protection. Both the production process and the product itself are environmentally friendly and non-harmful. I’ve always believed that only eco-friendly, sustainable products can truly achieve long-term success, gain broader development opportunities, and have better future potential.
