Nanhua is located in the eastern part of Tainan City and is the largest township in Tainan by area. Its terrain is mainly mountainous, which is why two reservoirs have been built here. With serene lake views and a pleasant climate, bring your family for a day trip to Nanhua this weekend!

The upper reaches of Nanhua Reservoir feature numerous waterfalls, streams, and other landscapes. There’s a scenic waterfall called Youqing Waterfall, next to which lies a pool with large rocks that form a cave resembling the Water Curtain Cave. Other attractions include Guiziaoxi Stream for stream trekking, Santai Sacred Tree, and Dachuhuo Pit. Travelers who are interested can check them out.

The Central Mountain Range extends into Nanhua, and the Wushan Health Trail is set along its ridgeline. Stretching a total of 12 kilometers, it is one of the few mid-level hiking trails in southern Taiwan. The trail offers beautiful scenery along the way, with dense and cool tree cover.

Located below the dam of Nanhua Reservoir is the former battlefield of Jiaobaxi, which has now been transformed into the 90-hectare Yuanzhiyou Park. The park features water-friendly facilities, ecological ponds, a bee ecology museum, and displays of decommissioned weapons, allowing visitors to travel back in time and experience the history of the site.

Nanhua Tianhou Temple was built in the 37th year of the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1698 AD) and has a history of over 300 years. It still houses a plaque from that era inscribed with the words “与天同工” (Working Alongside Heaven), making it highly significant historically. Visitors to Nanhua can stop by the temple to feel the historical traces time has left on this sacred site.
