Taipei attractions are going all out to attract visitors during the Spring Festival. Temples remain open for prayers, and even Taipei’s most famous sights such as Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, and the Miramar Ferris Wheel are only closed on New Year’s Eve evening. Many other attractions open as early as the first day of the Lunar New Year and have planned various New Year welcome events to draw crowds.

1. Classic Must-Visit International Attractions
Taipei 101 is a must-visit for many travelers to Taipei and one of the best sightseeing spots for showing overseas relatives or friends around. Visitors from Taiwan who go to the Taipei 101 Observatory from January 25 to 27 (the first to third days of the Lunar New Year) can exchange their tickets for a limited-edition New Year gift at the service desk on the 89th floor.

The National Palace Museum, as iconic as Taipei 101, has specially selected the characters for “Good Fortune, Joy, Health, and Peace” from the calligraphy work “Seal and Clerical Script Thousand Character Classic” and created two styles of Spring Festival couplets. These will be given out for free on January 27 and 28 (the third and fourth days of the Lunar New Year). The Confucius Temple, which only closes on New Year’s Eve afternoon and evening, will hold a “Rat Light Shines Upon the New Year” prayer event on January 25 (the first day of the Lunar New Year), and until January 29 (the fifth day), calligraphers will be on-site daily to write and give away calligraphy and painting blessing cards, bringing good luck for the New Year.

2. Best Spots for Strong New Year Atmosphere and Prayers
In addition, to make it convenient for people to light lamps and pray during the New Year, major temples including Longshan Temple in Wanhua and Bao’an Temple in Dalongdong will keep their doors open on New Year’s Eve. They will ring bells and beat drums to celebrate the New Year and host many prayer events during the Spring Festival.

3. Perfect for Families and Kids
Kid-friendly spots like the Children’s Amusement Park, the Taipei Astronomical Museum, and the Science Education Center will all open on the first day of the Lunar New Year?! The Children’s Amusement Park will launch the “2020 Happy Without Thinking of Rats—Welcome the New Year” event from January 25 to 29 (the first to fifth days of the Lunar New Year). A New Year Day Pass is just NT$168, allowing unlimited rides on 13 large amusement facilities. Additionally, visitors born in the Year of the Rat can enjoy an ultra-value discount of NT$99 for a Day Pass if they show ID when purchasing tickets from January 25 to 27 (the first to third days of the Lunar New Year).
