Fuli Township is the southernmost township in Hualien, home to the famous Liushishi Mountain Scenic Area. Every year during the golden needle flower season, it attracts a wave of tourists. Located in Fuli Township, Hualien, Dongli Station may not offer the grand seascape, but its endless fields of rice paddies, paired with the blue sky and white clouds on sunny days, create a moving scene that rivals Taiwan’s most beautiful train station—Douliu. Dongli Station has both a new and an old station. The old station’s railway tracks on both sides have been transformed into cycling paths. Nestled in the valley, it offers breathtaking views of the pastoral landscape and continuous green mountain scenery, with a view so expansive it feels like a magical gateway to a hidden paradise.

Vibrant and colorful golden needle flowers bloom every year in August and September. Their stunning beauty always draws many travelers from afar to witness the grand spectacle of golden seas of flowers on the mountains. The orange-yellow golden needle blossoms spread across the emerald-green mountaintops like scattered golden powder, creating a beautiful sight. Travelers, be sure to catch the summer bloom and head to the Huatung Valley to admire the beauty of the golden needle flowers.

Rice is the main crop in Fuli Township, while fields of rapeseed flowers are its most beautiful byproduct. Every year after the autumn harvest, farmers sow rapeseed flowers in the fallow fields as green manure for the next year’s rice crop. When the rapeseed blossoms, it is often the end of the year when everything else is withered and bleak. Yet, the small golden flowers choose this time to bloom, draping the fields of Fuli Township in their most beautiful colorful attire.

The theme of Xiaotianxiang Recreation Area is the narrow gorge and steep cliff landscape around the Shimen Tunnel. Because its terrain resembles the “Taroko Gorge” area of Tianxiang in Hualien, it is nicknamed “Little Tianxiang.” The steep, bare rock walls on both sides of the Shimen Gorge are the main bedrock of the Eastern Coastal Mountain Range—the “Dulan Mountain Formation.” Most of Taiwan’s sapphire ore veins are embedded within these rock layers, making it a worthwhile destination for travelers.
