Taiwan’s version of the Setouchi Triennale Art Festival – an island adventure to explore forested new frontiers

If you missed the once-every-three-years island-hopping journey of the “Setouchi Triennale” this year, Taiwan’s “island secret realms” might be your best bet for an art-filled experience!

The highly anticipated “Island Secret Realms” has finally unveiled its mysterious and intriguing exhibition locations. Tucked between urban and forest landscapes, the experimental venue — Shao Shao Siu Siu — which is rarely open to the public, presents works created by 20 Taiwanese craft artists. These “island pieces” are tailor-made to the unique natural surroundings, offering a rare forest art festival in the suburbs of Taipei.

Winding along a small mountain path into the forest, Shao Shao Siu Siu, nestled in a mountain valley, features minimal design that highlights nature through mesh fabrics and lightweight steel frames. Fallen leaves on the netted structure catch the sunlight, naturally filtering through to create stunning beams of light.
