2020's Hottest Travel Destinations Worldwide: Top 20 Places People Want to Visit

A well-known accommodation platform, after releasing the “19 Most Popular Travel Destinations” last year, has recently unveiled the “Global 20 Most Desired Travel Destinations,” forecasting that in 2020, travelers will continue to show growing interest in countries and cities with lower global visibility that emphasize eco-friendliness.

According to data, many cities and regions preparing for major events in 2020 have become popular travel destinations. Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the United States, chosen as the host city for next year’s Democratic National Convention, has seen its annual booking volume for nearby listings surge nearly 7.3 times (729%), making it the top predicted travel destination for 2020.

Cape Canaveral in Florida has also been selected by NASA as the launch site for the 2020 Mars Exploration Program (Mars 2020 Exploration Program), with an estimated year-on-year growth of up to 136%. Meanwhile, Tokyo, Japan — a frequent destination for Taiwanese travelers — is also expected to see a doubling in bookings due to the Tokyo Olympics.

In recent years, global travelers have shown interest not only in classic sightseeing spots but have also started exploring towns with more natural or cultural characteristics. Bilbao in Spain is a prime example — bolstered by the Guggenheim Museum and its uniquely designed architecture, the city is also set to host matches during Euro 2020 next year, leading to a significant continuous increase in visitor numbers, with accommodation bookings already reaching four times the usual level.

In addition, Buriram in Thailand has emerged as a new tourism choice due to its preservation of ancient ruins, with annual booking growth reaching 383%. Romania, which is relatively familiar to Taiwanese travelers, is also beloved for its pristine hilly forests and ancient villages, continuing to experience astonishing annual growth of nearly threefold.
