The sun slowly sinks behind the mountains, a dreamlike panorama of sunset glow and picturesque lakes and mountains comes into view. Taiwan has never lacked beauty—it just takes someone to notice it.

We were lucky enough to stumble upon this dreamy sunset.
Before the National Day holiday, I had been hesitating about where to go—wanting to escape the hustle and bustle but not wanting to spend the precious vacation time on travel. So I found a lakeside campsite, figuring I’d just relax there.

As the sun dipped behind the mountains, the sunset glow peeked out shyly.
Mingde Reservoir in Touwu, Miaoli, isn’t too far from Taipei—just about an hour and a half’s drive lets you leave the noisy city behind and embrace beautiful lakes and mountains.

The lake’s unnamed aquatic plants unexpectedly add rich texture to the beautiful scenery.
Originally named Houlong Reservoir, Mingde Reservoir was built in 1970. The island has three small islets, and this dreamy landscape view was captured from the campsite on Haitang Island.

A rare and elusive sunset glow.
On Haitang Island, there is the Yongchun Temple, which visitors can reach by crossing a suspension bridge. Camping enthusiasts can also bring their gear and head to the campsite on the island to fully enjoy this picturesque, dreamlike scenery.
