As the name suggests, Meihua Lake (Plum Blossom Lake) is named for its shape resembling a plum blossom with five petals, and the small island in the center resembles a pistil. The lake was named by former President Chiang Ching-kuo. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the lake surface is normally as smooth as a mirror. When a gentle breeze blows, the water sparkles. Whether you walk along the lakeside or ride a bicycle, you can enjoy the serene and boundless beauty.

Attractions in the Dongshan River Ecological Oasis include the Pulse of the Forest, Canoe Recreation Station, Observation Pavilion, Butterfly Trail, Rhinoceros Beetle Breeding Area, Landscape Bridge, and Floating Classroom. The park features duck boats and flat-bottomed boats cruising along the waterways, and visitors can also take a leisurely stroll. The park is planted with a large variety of trees such as green maple, Elaeocarpus, Barringtonia racemosa, Quercus glauca, and white dogwood, offering both educational and recreational value.

Qinggou Night Market is a highly recommended local night market in Yilan. It offers a wide variety of delicious food with very few duds. Whether it's sticky rice sausage wraps, grilled meat sandwich buns, spicy stinky tofu, or classic black tea, all have won the hearts of locals. The space is spacious and not overcrowded, making it a must-visit when traveling to Dongshan.

The Gongpu Canal in Baozhai Village, Dongshan Township, is a natural spring-fed waterway with clear water and beautiful scenery. In the past, it was a place where women washed vegetables and clothes, and where children played in the water and caught clams. It is also a hidden gem cherished by backpackers, located next to the Shiyegong Temple in Baozhai Village, Dongshan Township. The water is crystal clear, with fish swimming freely, and the banks are lined with plants such as water willows, lacebark elms, and wild ginger flowers. The environment is serene and quiet. Walking slowly upstream along the canal, quietly admiring the water flowing through the stepping stones, is an indescribable delight.
