Shuili Snake Kiln originated in 1927. Its founder, Lin Jiangsong, a local pottery master from Nantou, recognized that Shuili was a hub for timber distribution with abundant fuel and high-quality clay — perfect for pottery production. The kiln has been firing pottery to this day. It is the oldest and most traditional surviving wood-fired climbing kiln in Taiwan. Stretching over a hundred Taiwanese feet, it uses wood as fuel and is definitely worth a visit for travelers.

Aside from Guanziling in Tainan, Shuili also features the extraordinary phenomenon of fire and water emerging together. Located in Yongxing Village, Shuili, this spectacle lies hidden within a bamboo grove by the roadside at the 3.5 km mark of County Road 58 in Nantou. A small amount of natural gas seeps from the rock crevices and ignites into flame when lit manually, creating the remarkable coexistence of water and fire. Adventure-seeking travelers can explore this mysterious pathway.
