Eastern Taiwan Healing Day Trip: Natural Backdrops for Instagram-Worthy Shots & Chill Time

Busy workdays can be overwhelming, and on weekends, you just want to get out of the city and breathe. Eastern Taiwan boasts some of the most stunning coastal scenery in all of Taiwan, with natural hideaways nestled between mountains and sea everywhere you look. Here are six nature-filled spots where you can snap beautiful photos and enjoy a healing escape this weekend.

Located downstream of the Beinan River near the Likchi Bridge, Little Huangshan faces the Likchi Badlands across the Beinan River. It consists of the Beinan gravel formation at the edge of the Central Mountain Range, part of the Eurasian Plate. After years of erosion by rainwater, it now presents a dramatic landscape of towering rock formations. With its bare yellow earth and jagged peaks, it resembles Huangshan, though it may not have the majestic grandeur of China’s Huangshan, it still has a unique charm—serene, elegant, and picturesque.

King Kong Boulevard is located in Changguang Tribe, Changbin Township, Taitung County, around the 85K mark of Provincial Highway 11. It's a beautiful mountain-and-sea-facing village that preserves the natural, untouched fields. Lush terraced rice paddies stretch as far as the eye can see, layered elegantly at the foot of King Kong Mountain and along the Pacific coast. As the ocean breeze rustles through the fields, golden ears of rice sway gently, creating waves of grain that echo the sound of the sea. The boundless, sweeping views rival those of Brown Boulevard.

Tayuan Valley is situated at the site of the old and new Donghe Bridges. From here, you can not only admire the breathtaking view of the majestic rock valley but also gaze out at the seascape of the river mouth. Additionally, you can visit the Donghe Tribe to experience the traditional culture of the Amis people. The buildings in the Donghe Tribe are made from natural materials, and some even offer indigenous cuisine.

Adjacent to the Little Yehliu Scenic Area, Qialulan Recreation Area boasts beautiful natural scenery. During the day, you can take in the majestic views of the mountains and sea, while at night, you can gaze up at the vast starry sky. Covering an area of approximately 3.2 hectares, the site features rugged driftwood sculptures and expansive soft grasslands, making it a must-visit destination on the East Coast.
