Across Queensland, where sunshine graces the land all year round and the climate is pleasant, there are numerous picturesque and uniquely charming jogging routes. Pan Wen, Director of Greater China for Tourism and Events Queensland, personally recommends four classic routes he has run himself, allowing jogging enthusiasts to enjoy the thrill of running while traveling in Queensland.
1. GOLD COAST
For many locals, starting the day with a jog along the Gold Coast is an essential part of daily life. For those looking to take it up a notch, barefoot jogging on the beach is also a great option. Start at Surfers Paradise and head north along the golden sands all the way to the Sheraton Hotel. The 2015 Gold Coast Marathon will also be held from July 4th to 5th, giving all running enthusiasts the chance to freely run along the coastline.
2. BRISBANE
In Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, there are beautiful streets everywhere, including several pedestrian-only bridges, making it perfect for street running enthusiasts. Pan Wen recommends starting after work at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, crossing the Friendly Street Bridge, turning left onto the riverside path along South Bank, passing under the Story Bridge, and finishing at Eagle Street Pier. If you hit this route at sunrise or sunset, you’ll find the entire city bathed in golden sunlight, which is truly enchanting.

3. CAIRNS
Cairns is Australia’s most famous destination for triathlon competitions, and following the routes taken by competitors is almost a must-do for every running enthusiast who visits. Pan Wen recommends starting from the Great Barrier Reef Fleet Terminal and freely jogging along the Esplanade, where you’ll see luxury yachts owned by the rich and famous, holidaymakers from around the world, and locals fishing with nets.
4. WHITSUNDAYS
Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays consist of 74 islands, including Hamilton Island, One&Only Hayman Island, and Airlie Beach. Highlights such as the iconic Heart Reef and Australia’s No. 1 Whitehaven Beach offer unique and irresistible attractions. Start at Airlie Harbour, head north to Cannonvale Beach, pass by the sailing club and Abel Point Marina, and finish on the expansive beach area. After your run, you can also take a refreshing dip in the Airlie Beach Lagoon.
