Art can be more than just collectibles—it can be transformed into practical furniture or home decor through design, adding personality and charm to living spaces. Following the success of IKEA’s “KEEP OFF” rug, launched in May 2019 in collaboration with Virgil Abloh, the founder and designer of Off-White, the complete “MARKERAD” limited-edition collection finally debuted in November.

The collection includes 15 limited-edition furniture and home decor items such as shopping bags, sofa beds, storage cabinets, textiles, toolboxes, mirrors, clocks, and lighting. Purchases of these collaborative items are available via an online registration and lottery system. Registration opened at 2 PM on November 1, and winners must pick up their items in-store.

Henrik Most, Creative Leader of IKEA MARKERAD, stated that IKEA has always aimed to spark new ideas through collaborations with creators. Additionally, we believe that trend-driven art shouldn’t be distant or unattainable. Through this partnership, we hope to make art accessible to both seasoned enthusiasts and newcomers, allowing everyone the chance to enjoy these creative and beautiful artworks without breaking the bank.

The original concept of the MARKERAD series was to explore the essential living needs of millennials moving out for the first time. While solving functional issues was a priority, the products were also designed to offer added value, creating an emotional connection between users and the items.

The most eye-catching item in the “MARKERAD” series is undoubtedly the giant IKEA receipt rug. Inspired by IKEA receipts, Virgil Abloh believes that the receipt itself is a kind of trademark. By realistically enlarging the receipt to its actual size, the trademark becomes part of modern art. Whether used as a rug or a tapestry, it fully embodies the story that IKEA represents.
