A moment of leisure, returning to the simplicity of happiness

"Happy Teahouse" is another gathering place for outdoor enthusiasts following the Happy Ski Team. With happiness as its starting point and a teahouse as its base, it provides a platform for like-minded people to connect and converse. It was officially established and put into use in Shenzhen in 2012.

Inspired by the joyful, sincere, free, and simple atmosphere of "Happy Teahouse", Li Hao from Nanjing Ningfei and Hu Ge, the manager of "Happy Teahouse", coincidentally proposed during a conversation: Could Happy Teahouse be brought into the Nanjing Outdoor Exhibition?

And so...

In 2015, the offline pop-up store of "Happy Teahouse" officially landed in Nanjing, with the theme"Forming all kinds of good connections with a mind that seeks nothing". Tao Dawei, as the chief designer, gathered the strength of a group of outdoor friends to build "Happy Teahouse".

In 2016, "Happy Teahouse" had the theme"The Heart of the Artisan". In addition to tea, the teahouse also featured a selection of artisanal outdoor products for display.

In 2017, "Happy Teahouse" adopted the theme"Zen and Tea Are One Flavor", introducing traditional Chinese cultural health exchanges, emphasizing practice and experience.

In 2018, "Happy Teahouse" took"The Moving Tea Table"as its theme, calling on everyone to combine movement and tea drinking, return to nature, and promote the culture of combining activity and stillness among Chinese outdoor brands.

Every year at outdoor expos, this tranquil corner always attracts visitors to stop and stay. Boiling water, brewing tea, sipping tea, gathering, chatting, resting, sharing… In an instant, the space returns to peace and smiles multiply.

Visitors tired from walking around the expo can come here for a cup of refreshing tea, recharge, and then continue their journey. At the same time, it’s also a favorite spot for designers. As Tao Dawei said, "Happy Teahouse is a space in the outdoor circle for chatting and conversing. The tea friends here are not only experts in the outdoors and tea art, love life, but are also open-minded, enthusiastic, and unconcerned with trivialities. And the Happy Teahouse onsite at the outdoor expo is such a utopia for designers: some craft woodwork, some study Zen tea, and others are passionate about designing outdoor gear."

"Happy Teahouse" is not for profit, but for simple joy. From 2015 to 2018, over four years, Nanjing Ningfei and "Happy Teahouse" collaborated to “replicate” four "Happy Teahouses" at the expo—each a scene shifting with your steps.In 2019, the "Asia-Pacific Outdoor Expo" & "Happy Teahouse" will continue our moment of leisure with the theme of "Returning".

A touch of craftsmanship, returning to the original simple intention

Speaking of Tao Dawei, the chief designer of Happy Teahouse, he is an outdoor enthusiast and also a "carpenter" with a simple heart. "Living is about living the life you want. Being a carpenter may not make money, but having the heart of an artisan means doing things well and staying closer to passion."

In 2015, he sold his shares in his clothing company and chose to return to his hometown to start a new business.Back home, he developed a bond with old wood, which led to the creation of"TaoSuo"—and the upcoming"TaoSuo · Lakeside Retreat,"

a wooden-themed homestay.

He said, "The gentleness of wood, the sturdiness of the timber, made me feel as if I had traveled back a thousand years, wandering alongside ancient people and artifacts. The so-called 'wood tempers character, wood nurtures humanity'—this was the original vision behind founding TaoSuo."

In 2018, after "TaoSuo" had to pause for a year due to forced demolition, Tao Dawei decided to press on, staying true to his original aspiration: to live among wood and water, and to establish "TaoSuo · Lakeside Retreat." Here, aged timber bearing the marks of time will tell new stories, allowing products crafted from wood to come alive in this fresh space, exploring deeper connections between old objects and new spaces, and between urban life and one’s roots.

He added, "Outdoor sports mean traveling farther and seeing more, seeking meaning in life from the outside world. The Happy Teahouse, as a place of return and rest, becomes an ideal spot for hikers to relax, reflect, and recharge. This, too, is a continuation of the TaoSuo spirit." Therefore, besides integrating woodworking elements, the homestay "TaoSuo · Lakeside Retreat" will also feature the Happy Teahouse and outdoor activities, allowing more people to experience the simple, original aspirations here and return to a life of simplicity and joy.In 2019, we look forward to meeting Tao Dawei's comeback work; we also look forward toJune 20–23, at the Nanjing International Expo Center, during the Asia-Pacific Outdoor Exhibition
