X-Mudder Mud Run Ignites Beijing, Nearly 6,000 Mud Warriors Rock the Scene

On May 25, 2019, the X-Mudder Mud Run Beijing Stop officially commenced at the Shunyi Lotus Mountain Ski Resort. This edition featured two categories: the Classic Race, which saw nearly 5,000 participants, and the Family Race tailored for families, attracting over 600 family teams. The X-Mudder events have been expanding annually, gaining widespread recognition and steadily evolving into a flagship race.

At 8:30 AM, the 2019 X-Mudder Mud Run Beijing Stop officially began with the debut of the official event team—Ss Girls, an energetic and youthful group of celebrity female athletes. They aim to redefine beauty standards for women, promote a healthy and fit lifestyle, and convey the message: "Reject unhealthy Size Zero beauty; being slim in clothes but toned underneath is the real win!" Their presence added a vibrant touch to the X-Mudder arena. At 9:00 AM, the Ss Girls joined the first wave of Classic Race participants at the starting line, firing the starting gun for the Beijing Stop.

Shortly after, the charity donation initiative by Skullcandy Sports and the Shanghai Dream Fulfillment Public Welfare Foundation was officially launched. As the organizer of the X-Mudder Mud Run, Skullcandy Sports has been committed to philanthropy since its inception. Not only did it collaborate with Love Future Foreign Enterprise Volunteer Action and the China Social Welfare Foundation’s Warmth Project Public Welfare Fund to launch the “FOR MUD FOR LOVE – Love for the Mud” rural children’s development support program, but it has also actively participated in socially beneficial events like the “BAZAAR Stars’ Charity Night” in recent years. This year, it entered into an annual charitable partnership with the Shanghai Dream Fulfillment Public Welfare Foundation. For every ticket sold for the X-Mudder Mud Run, a portion of the proceeds will be donated through the Shanghai Dream Fulfillment Public Welfare Foundation’s Fubang Special Fund. The donations will support projects such as poverty alleviation, child welfare, education aid, and reemployment assistance for disadvantaged groups.

Since its inaugural event in early 2015, the X-Mudder Mud Run has successfully taken place in cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Sanya, Kunming, and Puzhehei. X-Mudder is not only a nationwide outdoor obstacle race but also represents a healthy lifestyle, continuously leading the trend in fitness sports. It aims to help participants achieve physical endurance, mental rejuvenation, and personal transformation by overcoming challenges and completing the course.

The adult races of the X-Mudder Mud Run consist of three categories: the Classic Race (6-8 km, 18-25 obstacles), the Challenge Race (12-15 km, 30-35 obstacles), and the Ultimate Race (20-25 km, over 40 obstacles). Higher levels involve longer distances, more complex terrains, and increasingly difficult obstacles. Failure to complete an obstacle requires a penalty of 30 burpees before continuing.

The Classic Race is the most traditional event in the X-Mudder Mud Run, emphasizing fun and entertainment. The Beijing Stop Classic Race covered a total distance of 10 km with 22 obstacles. “Previously, the Classic Race distance ranged between 6-8 km. For this event, the organizing team made full use of the Lotus Mountain Ski Resort’s track length to extend it to 10 km, designing 22 obstacles along the terrain,” explained Ms. Li, the race director of the X-Mudder Mud Run. “The Classic Race is designed to help participants, who often face various pressures in daily life from school, work, or family, release stress and rediscover the joy of life. By overcoming obstacles, they can return to a healthier state of living!”

In addition to the regular Classic Race, the Beijing Stop also featured a specially designed X-Mudder Family Race for holiday outings with families. The obstacles were crafted for experiential and collaborative play, offering the perfect destination for family bonding. Parents and children could enjoy the pleasures of outdoor activities while strengthening relationships and building family synergy.

Compared to conventional forms of play, today’s living environments have deprived children of many childhood joys and resilient qualities. The X-Mudder Family Race provides them with a platform to discover their potential, grow through physical activity, transform mentally and physically through challenges, and experience the joy of sports through perseverance in overcoming obstacles and the accomplishment of crossing the finish line. “The challenge and fun of X-Mudder give my child a healthy and joyful childhood experience,” said one parent. “Nowadays, kids spend their free time playing games on their phones. I want my child to go outside, truly embrace nature, and enjoy life.”

The new season of X-Mudder simultaneously launched a “Race Points” system and upgraded the individual progression system for participants—the “Honor System.”

Participants earn corresponding “Race Points” for each completed X-Mudder Mud Run. The points for a single race are calculated as: 100 (base points) * obstacle coefficient * distance coefficient * time coefficient. Through this point conversion, participants across different race levels or locations can compare their “ability value” horizontally. It is reported that all X-Mudder participants can earn race points by competing, with the top 100 male and female finishers at each stop earning direct entry to the Ultimate Race via a bye, sharing a prize pool of one million yuan composed of base prize money and a portion of registration fees.

According to the organizers, the “Honor System” of the X-Mudder Mud Run is designed to allow participants to climb the ranks and earn titles through the accumulation of “merit points,” enhancing their sense of honor and belonging. It encourages contestants to continuously push their limits and grow alongside the event. The Honor System is divided into four tiers based on accumulated merit points: “Warrior,” “Non-Commissioned Officer,” “Lieutenant,” and “Captain.” All registered X-Mudder members can accumulate merit points by participating in races, training camps, related online and offline events, and volunteer services, thereby progressing within the system and receiving corresponding honors and material rewards.

High-quality event services and brand philosophy have earned the X-Mudder Mud Run strong support from numerous brands. The official designated sports drink, CELSIUS, accompanies all mud warriors. With “0 sugar, 0 calories, 0 fat,” CELSIUS promotes a healthy lifestyle of “light exercise + balanced diet + CELSIUS” for athletes worldwide, helping participants recharge, shed the old self, and embrace a new one.

No sport, no love for sports? In 2019, JD Sports continued its strategic partnership with the X-Mudder Mud Run, providing registration services and encouraging sports enthusiasts to honor the pure spirit of athleticism, check in at the X-Mudder arena, and prove their passion through action.

Yihe Bencao Black Tea for Men, sharing the same craftsmanship spirit as the X-Mudder Mud Run, pursues a philosophy of endurance and exploration. It seeks out and nurtures authentic, traceable ingredients—black tea—to deliver an efficient skincare experience, using genuine black tea to awaken resilient youth. The official sponsor, Gree Electric Appliances, brought the highly recommended Gree Jinghong Magic Refrigerator onsite, keeping produce fresh for two weeks and making slicing easy, offering participants a cutting-edge healthy experience. Under the blazing sun, passionate participants, cool drinks, and the thrilling race unfolded energetically on the muddy track.

With upgraded obstacles and increased difficulty, rest assured—professional insurance companies have all participants, volunteers, and staff covered. This stop continues to be supported by the state-owned national insurer, Everbright Sun Life, providing professional accidental injury and accident medical insurance with a total coverage of nearly 700 million yuan. CR Beverage backed the 2019 X-Mudder Mud Run Beijing Stop, supplying ample CR Pure Water to keep the muddy warriors going and making the obstacle course even more intense. ALANDV provided protein bars and energy grain bars, fueling participants with extra energy. Bituo Media, a subsidiary of Skullcandy Sports, handled the marketing and promotion for the event.

Thus, the X-Mudder Mud Run Beijing Stop concluded successfully. In June, the Land of Abundance—Chengdu—will take the baton, marking the X-Mudder Mud Run’s debut in Southwest China.
