Food isn’t hard to find, but it’s those unique, character-filled specialty shops that are tricky to come by. These six places are absolutely worth a visit when you’re in Hong Kong!

1. Ka Ka Dessert

A Michelin-selected dessert shop, made with quality ingredients—the aroma alone draws passersby in for a bowl.

Not only do they excel at traditional black sesame and walnut soup, but their innovative Ningbo ginger juice dumplings are truly one of a kind. The combination of ginger juice and dumplings is surprisingly delightful, with bright soup and rich ginger flavor that’s not overly spicy—an ideal warming treat for the stomach.

Address: G/F, 29 Ningbo Street, Jordan

2. Fortress Ice Cream

This isn’t just any shop—it’s a quintessentially Hong Kong-style ice cream truck. You might be excited, but you can only get it at the right time and place~ Doesn’t that make it uniquely special?

It has a long history in Hong Kong, mainly serving ice cream. If you’re lucky, you might spot the little truck at Harbour City—make sure to grab it when you do!

3. Royal Cake Art

Honestly, I’ve had plenty of egg rolls before, and most other brands only offer the plain flavor, which can get a bit boring. But Royal’s Earl Grey and coffee flavors? Seriously rare and absolutely amazing!

Both flavors are sweet without being cloying—the Earl Grey one lets you taste the tea’s delicate aroma, and you can even see the crispy tea seeds on top; the coffee flavor has a slight bitterness and a rich taste.

The egg rolls are crispy, with a lovely honeycomb effect. Plus, Royal’s egg rolls differ from others in that they’ve been redesigned into short sticks—you can finish one bite-sized piece in one go, no more worrying about crumbs!

Tsim Sha Tsui address: G/F, 43 Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui (MTR Tsim Sha Tsui B2 Exit)

Causeway Bay address: G/F, 40 Lee Garden Road, Causeway Bay (MTR Causeway Bay F Exit)

4. Mrs. Watts Café

Super recommended by Shawn Yue, this cha chaan teng has also been visited by many celebrities. If you want the same pineapple buns and milk tea, this is the place to go. You might even run into a celebrity—fangirls, let’s go!

The crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside pineapple buns and silky milk tea are delicious and affordable, and the creative packaging makes the shop instantly memorable!

Address: G7-G8, G/F, 8 Cotton Path, Tsim Sha Tsui

5.HOW

This is a café that doesn’t follow the rules—it’s called HOW, but its full name is how to live. I think the owner wants customers to enjoy a peaceful life here and ponder the meaning of existence, completely free from commercialization~

From naming and interior design to food preparation, every detail is thoughtfully done. The space is bright and spacious, making it very comfortable. The food has a Japanese flair, with delicate plating and tasty dishes—absolutely perfect.

Address: 99 How Ming Street, Kwun Tong

Australia Dairy Company

It sounds like a place for drinking milk, but surprisingly, their scrambled egg toast is incredibly delicious. The eggs are tender and melt-in-your-mouth, and the toast becomes anything but bland with it.

Their steamed milk with egg white is also a signature dish, rich in milky flavor. They creatively use ingredients in various ways, fully embracing their unique style!

Address: 47-49 Parkes Street, Jordan

Each of these unique food spots has its own distinctive charm, high recognizability, and is definitely a top choice for your foodie Instagrams.
