Summer vacation: setting off toward dreams and distant horizons

They are headed to different destinations, but all are journeying toward their dreams.

The mountaineering team is steadfastly pursuing the sacred purity of snow-covered peaks, the scientific expedition team is once again heading to Tibet to bring care and love to children, while the orienteering and rock climbing teams will strive for victory in their respective competitive arenas.

On the evening of July 7th, at the Public Training Room 3 of China Agricultural University, four summer expedition teams from the Fengyun Society held their departure ceremony.

The captains of the four teams gave speeches, outlining their summer plans and preparation status. From their words, we could feel contemporary university students’ relentless pursuit of dreams and strong desire to realize their own value.

Jiang Lu, captain of the scientific expedition team, said: “When you actually hold the small hands of Tibetan children, you suddenly understand that although this generation of young people may no longer carry steel guns to fight enemies, what remains unchanged is our sense of responsibility to family and country. We of this generation must become the pillars of society!”

Chen Xuan, captain of the orienteering team, said: “We’re not fully ready yet, because we’ll be in a state of preparation right up until the moment the competition begins.”

Mei Junmei, captain of the mountaineering team, said: “The four teams practice the spirit of mountaineering in different styles, but the mountaineering team is the one that most directly embodies this spirit.”

And Huang Xiaolou, the captain of the rock climbing team, is herself the best example of the mountaineering spirit. The values of “hard work and endurance, teamwork, daring to win, and striving for the summit” flow through every member of the climbing team. Each of them is a dancer on the cliffs.

Each team consists of both new and veteran members. The newcomers are full of enthusiasm, while the veterans are more meticulous and composed. It’s not surprising to have new members every year, but what’s truly commendable is that veterans return year after year. Beyond passion, what matters even more is legacy—passing on the spirit of endurance, the belief in bravely chasing dreams, and the experience gained through trial and error. Take the scientific expedition team as an example: since 2005, they have gone to Tibet for 14 consecutive years, and this year marks the 15th. What began as a proposal to conduct research and teach in Tibet has now evolved into a relatively complete process involving early preparation, team selection, on-campus readiness, and the actual trip to Tibet—all inseparable from the concept of legacy. Every member is a passerby, yet every member remains forever part of the team.

“What is the greatest treasure of the Fengyun Society?” “Its members, its teammates.” The members of the four teams were selected through multiple rounds of screening. What was chosen wasn’t just people to take part in activities together, but friends to “fight” alongside. For the Fengyun Society, whose core values include “teamwork,” teammates are like family, like old friends who’ve known each other for years—people you can trust to have your back during the “battle.”

The departure ceremony is just a glimpse of the four teams. We may not see all their efforts, but we will surely witness the fruits of their hard work.
Here, we wish the four teams a successful summer journey, and every member the very best as they continue advancing further along their path of chasing dreams.
