Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival Traffic Control and Shuttle Information
The “New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival,” taking place on February 1 (Saturday) and February 8 (Saturday), will implement full traffic control for cars and motorcycles from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight). It is advised that the public avoid driving and instead take the train or shuttle bus for more convenient access. To accommodate the traffic control over the two event days, the city government has arranged special shuttle bus routes. In addition to departures from Muzha Zoo, Shiding, and Ruifang, on February 8, the day of the Lantern Festival at Shifen Square—which expects even larger crowds and a bigger-scale event—additional shuttle bus lines will be added between Keelung–Shifen and Shuangxi–Shifen.
For fares, when heading up the mountain, the charge is NT$50 when boarding from Muzha Zoo, NT$30 when boarding from Shiding, Ruifang, or Keelung, and NT$15 when boarding within Pingxi District. Payment can be made with an electronic ticket card or cash. For the return trip down the mountain, to facilitate quick dispersal of visitors, all shuttle bus rides are free. On February 8, the Shuangxi–Shifen shuttle bus line offers free rides for the entire route between Shuangxi Train Station and Shifen Jiping Bridge.
Additionally, during the event period, the Pingxi Branch Line of the Taiwan Railways will operate additional trains. For metro routes and schedules, please refer to the official website announcements. Be sure to check online and keep an eye on the last train times to avoid missing connections to other routes. The organizers urge everyone to cooperate by using public transportation to reach the venue, taking advantage of the shuttle buses, avoiding traffic congestion, and planning your time well to ensure a joyful and safe trip home.
