He has published travel articles and photography works on various newspapers, magazines, and online platforms in both Chinese and English in Hong Kong. Judge Henry Lo Selected M.L.YIP’s work as the winning entry for the November Travel Photography Monthly “Awards.” Below is Henry Lo the judge’s commentary:
The photographer chose an excellent vantage point, capturing the peaks, mist, and cottage within a single composition, giving the photo three distinct layers. The cottage and the peaks create a balance with each other and also provide a sense of scale. Of course, the timing of the shoot was also key—the dusk light provided suitable illumination and contrast for both subjects. I just feel that the photo is cropped “a bit too tight,” with both main elements too close to the edges. I’m not sure if this was due to equipment limitations at the time or an intentional framing choice.
