Countdown to Autumn & Winter Travel Subsidies Begins！Must-Do Activities Include Lantern Festivals, Fireworks, and Visiting Larch Forests in Spring

As waves of tourists arrive, Tainan City has expanded its autumn and winter travel subsidy quota. Originally set at 50,000 room nights by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the city government applied to the central government four times to increase it to 190,000 room nights — a 3.8-fold rise. The total subsidy fund has now reached NT$190 million.

As of January 5, 2020, the number of room night subsidy applications from tourists has exceeded 155,000, with a utilization rate surpassing 80%. Tainan performs outstandingly among the six major municipalities. Meanwhile, North District Garden Night Market in Tainan, which is highly popular, currently ranks third nationwide in the usage volume of night market vouchers, with cumulative usage exceeding 300,000 vouchers and a subsidy amount reaching over NT$15 million. This has effectively boosted economic activity in and around the night market.

The Tainan City Tourism Bureau stated that the expanded autumn and winter accommodation subsidy will continue until the end of January. The accommodation boom is expected to extend into the Lunar New Year period. In addition, a series of festive activities for the Lunar New Year in Tainan have been launched one after another, including the Chenggong Lantern Festival, the “Love at Salt Mountain, It’s You” event at Qigu Salt Mountain, the Xinhua Lunar New Year Goods Street, the 2020 Luermen Madonna Temple New Year Carnival Fireworks Festival, the Fucheng Pujii Lantern Festival, the Yuejin Harbor Lantern Festival, the Liuzhao Larch Season, as well as various spring walking activities at major scenic spots and temples across Tainan’s “City of Gods.”
