On January 2, a Black Hawk military aircraft crashed into a valley, killing eight high-ranking military officers including Chief of the General Staff Shen Yi-ming. The entire nation mourned deeply. To allow the public to pay their respects, the Taipei Guest House—which is normally only open on designated dates—has been specially opened for two days to let people express their grief and reverence.

The site has been arranged with memorials for the eight servicemen, including white candles and a message board. The atmosphere is solemn and sorrowful, with many servicemen, their comrades, and family members visiting. Many were seen in tears.
The Taipei Guest House is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which also issued a statement expressing gratitude for the sincere condolences from allied nations and dignitaries from multiple countries regarding the casualties of the Black Hawk helicopter accident in Taiwan and their families. It also acknowledged the care shown toward Taiwan. As of the afternoon of January 3, allied nations—including Haiti, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Honduras, Paraguay, Eswatini, and Saint Lucia—as well as individuals from all walks of life had expressed their condolences. In addition, friendly nations and figures such as the United States, Japan, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Turkey, Israel, Jordan, Poland, Slovakia, interim leadership of Venezuela, and Costa Rica also offered their sympathies.

President Tsai Ing-wen specifically instructed the arrangement of a memorial venue at the Taipei Guest House. She and Vice President Chen Chien-jen also visited the site to pay their respects. The Taipei Guest House will be open on January 4 and 5 for public mourning, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
