With the recent cold weather, plum blossoms—flowers that bloom more vibrantly as it gets colder—are gradually coming into full bloom. Nantou’s Xinyi Township is a renowned destination for plum blossom viewing, featuring spots such as Fenguitou, Wusongkeng, and Niuchongkeng. Among these, Wusongkeng, not far from Fenguitou, sits at a higher elevation where the plum blossoms are densely in bloom and the flowering period lasts a bit longer.

Wusongkeng, at a higher altitude of around 1,000 meters, has nearby plum orchards that have set up blossom-viewing trails, as well as cafes, drinks, and meals on offer, allowing visitors to enjoy the fragrant plum scenery while dining.

Although plum blossoms aren’t particularly abundant in winter, the recent cold snap and their relatively long flowering season—with some blooming early and others late—mean flowers can be enjoyed from the start of the season until the end of January, helping to disperse the crowds of blossom viewers.

From late December to early February is the plum blossom season in Nantou’s Xinyi, where plum blossoms carpet the hills in a magnificent yet delicate display, and a stroll through the plum groves fills the air with their subtle fragrance.
