Phones are one of the essential items in modern life, and many people are constantly on their devices, giving rise to the term "phubbers." However, never focus solely on your phone while walking—it could put your life at risk. A woman abroad was hiking when she got distracted by her phone and fell off a cliff. Fortunately, she was rescued and sustained no life-threatening injuries.
According to foreign media reports, a 32-year-old woman in the U.S. went hiking in the Palos Verdes mountains area of Los Angeles, California, around 7 p.m. one evening. But she was so engrossed in her phone that she didn’t notice the path ahead and accidentally fell off a 60-meter (about 20-story) cliff. Badly injured and unable to move, she lay helpless on the ground until she was discovered by another hiker around 8 a.m. the next morning—having been trapped for nearly 13 hours.
After receiving the report, police immediately dispatched a helicopter for the rescue and used a crane to pull the woman up before sending her to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, she was not seriously hurt. Local police officer Doug Kimura revealed that the woman was very lucky—despite the loud wind, someone was still able to hear her faint cries for help. He also urged the public not to use their phones while walking or driving to avoid accidents.
