When it comes to irrigation canals, many people think of the Chianan Irrigation System built by Yoichi Hatta mentioned in history textbooks. However, on Xuetian Mountain behind Taichung Success Railway Station, there is a century-old aerial irrigation canal “Zhigao Canal,” which is a private spot for leisure and exercise among residents of Wuri and Dajia.

Since its construction during the Japanese colonial period, the “Zhigao Canal” has drawn water from the Fazi River in Nantun to irrigate the rice fields of Wuri and Dajia. In recent years, with the addition of trail facilities, this agricultural water conservancy project has also become a hidden hiking and sightseeing spot. The trail is lush with greenery, and the canal path stretches about 6 kilometers. Upon reaching the mountain’s triangulation station, you can see a vast field of silvergrass, attracting many visitors for hiking and photography.
