To accommodate travelers during the 109th Lunar New Year holiday season, Taiwan Railways will operate an additional 271 train services and 977 extra carriages over a 10-day period from Tuesday, January 21, 109, to Thursday, January 30, 109.

Here are the ticket booking methods and important notes:
1. Booking regular reserved seat trains on the Eastern Line and Western Line
Tickets for regular reserved seat trains on the Eastern Line (including Yilan Line, South Link Line, and inter-line trains) for the 109th Lunar New Year holiday will go on sale at midnight on Thursday, January 2, 109. Tickets for reserved seat trains on the Western Line will be available starting at midnight on Friday, January 3, 109.
[Booking 8 Spring Festival holiday Eastern Line real-name system trains]
Online booking for 8 additional real-name system trains on the Eastern Line (operating on January 22, 23, 28, and 29, 109) will open at midnight on Saturday, January 4, 109. These tickets are available via real-name registration for individuals whose national ID numbers start with U or V, residents (as of December 1, 108) or their spouses and immediate family members residing in Hualien County or Taitung County before December 1, 108.
2. Booking 7 regularly scheduled real-name system trains
For 7 trains where residents of Hualien and Taitung can regularly book tickets via real-name registration during the Spring Festival holiday, priority real-name ticket booking will be available from midnight on January 2, 109, to 24:00 on January 4, 109, for eligible passengers traveling between January 16 and 30. Any unsold seats will be opened to all passengers starting at midnight on January 5, 109. The 7 regularly scheduled real-name trains are: Train 206 (Saturday), 207 (daily), 238 (Monday–Saturday), and 240 (Sunday) from Hualien—available for passengers with ID numbers starting with U and eligible individuals. Train 405 (Saturday, Sunday, Monday), 408 (daily), and 431 (daily) from Taitung—available for passengers with ID numbers starting with V and eligible individuals.
3. Other enhanced transport and discount measures
1. To ease congestion on National Freeway No. 5 and boost transport capacity on the Eastern Line, from January 23 to 29, 109 (a total of 7 days), additional Fu-Hsing Express trains will run between Shulin, Yilan, and Hualien. These services aim to transport travelers commuting or traveling between Taipei, Yilan, and Hualien, and offer discounted fares of NT$100 for Taipei–Yilan and NT$200 for Taipei–Hualien.
2. To divert passenger flow during peak Spring Festival travel times, during off-peak periods before (January 22) and after (January 28) the holiday, red-eye trains will be offered at a 30% discount to help alleviate crowding during peak hours.
3. Additionally, Hualien County and Taitung County have applied for 4 and 6 special return/trip trains respectively, totaling 10 services. Ticketing details will be announced separately by local authorities.
4. To strengthen passenger transport, tickets for family cars will not be sold from January 21 to 30, 109. These cars will be sold as regular carriages.
