The Yuantanxi Ecological Area is located in Zhushan, Chiayi. It features unique rock pools formed by gullies near the mountainside that have been eroded over time, creating a serene environment teeming with diverse ecology.
Comfortable trails offer great views of the valley’s ecosystem.
The strata through which Yuantanxi flows consist of interbedded sandstone and shale. With well-developed joints, it features multi-tiered waterfalls, potholes, towering cliffs, narrow valleys, and steep slopes – making it an ideal spot to observe and appreciate mid-altitude valley landscapes.
Clear water pools.
The environment here is rich in moisture and humidity, suitable for moisture-loving plants and epiphytes. The ample water not only benefits organic life but also contributes to natural succession on large rocks by the stream and cliff faces near the waterfall, nurturing a small yet complete biological chain.
Resting pavilions are also set up along the trail for travelers to take a break.
From the evolution of landforms and geological structures, to waterways carving through mountains to form valleys, moisture-loving plants forming clusters, herbivorous insects attracting various birds, and the aquatic ecosystem ranging from plankton, fish fry, shrimp, crabs to amphibians – all weave together an incredibly rich ecological system throughout the park.
