With the presidential election approaching, discussions on various issues have become increasingly heated. This time, Hou Yu-ih
The Taiwan Visitors Association not only firmly refuted and clarified the claims but also believes that Chang San-cheng’s groundless rumors and slander have infringed upon the reputation of both the Taiwan Visitors Association and Yeh Chu-lan, and reserves the right to pursue legal action.
The key points of the clarification are as follows:
The Taiwan Visitors Association firmly clarifies as follows:
1. The Taiwan Visitors Association did not receive any “subsidy” for organizing overseas promotional tours.
The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, in order to promote Taiwan’s tourism, selects legal entities and organizations annually in accordance with the Development of Tourism Act and administrative procedures, through open and fair procedures, to organize industry participants to attend travel fairs and conduct promotional events overseas. The Taiwan Visitors Association submitted a proposal in accordance with laws and procedures, bid for the project, and participated in the evaluation. After being awarded the contract and completing the execution, it submitted “original receipts” of actual expenses to apply for the “administrative fee” (10% of the actual expenses incurred) commissioned by the Tourism Bureau.
2. Yeh Chu-lan became the president of the Taiwan Visitors Association after the resignation of former president Lai Szu-chen.
The board of directors of the Taiwan Visitors Association consists of 23 directors, who jointly elect the chairman (president). Lai Szu-chen, after retiring from her position as director of the Tourism Bureau, took over as president of the Taiwan Visitors Association in April 2013 (the former president, Chang Chia-chih, stepped down to become Minister of Economic Affairs). She then resigned from her positions
3. The Taiwan Visitors Association is a non-profit public foundation dedicated to promoting tourism in Taiwan, which is distinctly different from other so-called "tourism associations."
The Taiwan Visitors Association was established in 1956 and has a history of 63 years. Its founding purpose was to market Taiwan and promote tourism here. However, there are currently many "XX Tourism Associations" in the country, often causing confusion and misunderstanding among the public. Especially last year, when another business entity established the "Taiwan Tourism Development Association," it has brought a great deal of trouble to our association. We also urge the competent authorities to address the issues caused by the highly similar names of the "Taiwan Visitors Association" and the "Taiwan Tourism Development Association," which not only create confusion but also infringe upon the personality rights of the Taiwan Visitors Association.
Tourism and the transportation industry have always been closely related to people’s lives and are easily turned into election issues. For example, the southern extension of the high-speed rail, travel subsidies, and the love Ferris wheel (love industry chain) are all hot tourism topics. The Taiwan Visitors Association took strong action to issue clarifications and demanded an apology from Chang San-cheng, and how this develops will depend on whether it can spark attention and discussion.
