Donghe Township is located northeast of Taitung and boasts abundant cultural and natural landscapes. The Kinzan Recreation Area consists of landscapes such as small bays, offshore reefs, long sandy beaches, and coastal cliffs. Named after its wine glass-like bay shape, Kinzan features a 3-kilometer stretch of fine sandy beach. Due to its unique coastal terrain and powerful waves, it has recently become the venue for Taiwan’s International Surfing Open, stepping onto the international stage.

The Upside-Down Water Flow wonder is located beside Provincial Highway 11. This phenomenon occurs because while the road beside the channel is downhill, the channel itself is slightly uphill. As a result, when viewed from below, it looks as if the water in the channel is flowing uphill along the downhill road — a truly mind-boggling sight.

Dulan Mountain is regarded as a sacred mountain by the local Amis and Puyuma peoples and serves as a symbolic and ceremonial site. Although it stands only 1,190 meters above sea level, its towering and steep form, combined with the moist air from the Pacific Ocean to the east, gives Dulan Mountain an eternally misty and mysterious atmosphere. From the summit, you can take in panoramic views of the Taiyuan Basin, the southern part of Chihshang and the Taitung Valley, as well as the Taitung Plain. To the east, the Pacific Ocean stretches out with clear views of Green Island and Orchid Island, making it a great spot for hiking and sightseeing.

Located at the mouth of the Mawuku River in Donghe Township, the Donghe Bridge Scenic Area features both the new and old bridges spanning across it. Set against the backdrop of lush green mountains and waters, the scenery is strikingly beautiful. The bright red color of the new Donghe Bridge is particularly impressive, while the unique pier design of the old Donghe Bridge has earned it a spot among Taiwan’s Top 100 Historical Buildings. The area under the bridge is scattered with uniquely shaped muscovite stones that contrast beautifully with the emerald-green river, creating a picturesque natural landscape.
