As New Year’s Day approaches, many travelers head to the mountains to welcome the first sunrise of 2020. This year, to accommodate visitors flocking to Alishan National Scenic Area to catch the sunrise, the Alishan Forest Railway’s Zhushan Sunrise Train has opened up phone reservations for ticket pre-sales.

The Alishan Forest Railway’s Zhushan Sunrise Train accepts group reservations (for groups of 30 or more) by phone, offering 10 morning services from 1:50 AM to 4:25 AM, with a total of 2,760 pre-sale tickets available. Each phone call is limited to booking 100 tickets and will continue until all tickets are sold out.

In addition to group pre-sales, general admission tickets will be available for on-site reservation and purchase at the Alishan Station’s first-floor ticket office from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on December 31. Each person can purchase up to 10 tickets per transaction, and any remaining tickets will go on sale starting at 1:20 AM on January 1, 2020.
Zhushan Sunrise Train.
The return services on the Zhushan Line are divided into two time slots: Time Slot A (7:15 AM – 8:00 AM) and Time Slot B (8:20 AM – 9:15 AM). Return tickets are sold by time slot, not by specific train service, with 840 seats available per time slot. Due to train formation scheduling, the Zhaoping Line on January 1, 2020, will depart at 10:00 AM instead, while the Shenshu Line will maintain its first departure at 10:15 AM.
To accommodate the New Year holiday travel, two services of the Alishan Train between Chiayi and Shizilu will be operated, departing at 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM respectively. Online ticket sales begin at 6:00 AM on December 18. Travelers planning to see the sunrise in Alishan should act fast to secure their tickets.
