Tainan City’s Longqi District hosted its first major art event, the “2019 Longqi Light Festival – Empty Mountain Festival,” which officially opened on December 21 and was on display until February 2, 2020.

The “2019 Longqi Light Festival – Empty Mountain Festival” was based at Huxing Mountain Park in Longqi District, featuring one animated story, “The Empty Mountain,” and nine art installations. Each piece was created on-site through the interaction and exchange between seven artist groups and local residents and their living environment, resulting in works unique to Huxing Mountain.

Why is it named “Empty Mountain”? This stems from the artists’ reflection on urbanization. After arriving in Longqi, the artists realized that modern society has an extremely flattened imagination of villages suffering from population decline—people often view “the countryside” as “deserted” or even “empty and barren.”
“Unity Web Weaving” uses recycled waste plastic to weave a giant spiderweb, symbolizing the strong community spirit of local residents.
