Winter flower viewing trips are one of the most relaxing itineraries for travelers at year’s end. And besides the various locations featuring bald cypress and rice fields, there is this hidden flower sea in Chiayi, spanning as much as 14 hectares. This year, the Chiayi City Government planted about 14 hectares of cosmos, zinnias, sunflowers, and rapeseed flowers at the farmland at the end of Yu Shan Road. Due to the warm winter during the planting period, the mild climate and lack of water led many of the flowers to bloom ahead of schedule.

Now you can already see pink, white, and yellow cosmos competing in beauty, their blossoms radiant as brocade. Travelers can head there now to take beautiful photos with the first wave of blooming flower seas.

The original peak flowering period was expected to be around the end of November and early December, but due to the warm winter and lack of rain, the flowers have bloomed earlier. The Flower Sea Festival, which was originally scheduled to start on December 7th, has already seen the flower fields gradually blooming, kicking off the event.

The Flower Sea Festival will take place at the end of Yu Shan Road on December 7th & 8th, and December 14th & 15th. During the event, there will be a flower sea market, local agricultural products and food for sale, as well as activities for families such as kiln experiences, rice harvesting experiences, and DIY agricultural experiences. Come enjoy the cool breezes and explore the flower seas on weekends.
