To boost tourism in the Dakeng area, the Taichung City Government resumed the four-year-hiatus Dakeng Hundred Tables Banquet in October. Recently, popular trails No. 1, 6, and 10 have been refurbished and reopened. The Dakeng Mountain Clean-Up Campaign, now in its 10th year, saw volunteers from across the region gather to remove litter left by hikers, keeping the mountain area clean and beautiful. This effort has successfully established Dakeng as “Taichung’s Yangmingshan,” tapping into the autumn and winter travel market.
Dakeng Scenic Area is known as the “Back Garden of Taichung.” With elevations ranging from 112 to 859 meters, it features over 30 types of deciduous trees. In the changing seasons, visitors can enjoy the golden foliage. There are also 12 hiking trails of varying difficulty levels, designed along the mountain ridges and streams. In addition to enjoying scenic views from the heights, visitors can explore farmers’ markets on their way down. Hiking here also allows for easy side trips to nearby attractions.
Notable landmarks in Dakeng include the Qingxin Bridge, New Peach Blossom Land Bridge, Blue Sky White Clouds Bridge, and Romantic Lovers Bridge. Each bridge boasts unique and eye-catching designs, offering different atmospheres day and night. The mountain trails are lined with various tree species such as bamboo shoots, cherry blossoms, and acacia trees, allowing hikers to immerse themselves in nature all day long.
The Taichung Tourism Bureau welcomes visitors from all over to explore Dakeng Scenic Area — hike, admire the maple leaves, soak in hot springs, then head to Xinshe to enjoy flower fields and local delicacies. Travelers staying at participating hotels in Taichung can enjoy discounts: stay one night from Sunday to Friday and get NT$1,000 off the actual room rate.
