The 2019 Guguan Seven Peaks Hiking Event held a press conference on the 25th. Participants who complete all seven peaks by February 29, 2020, will receive a completion certificate, a conquest badge issued by the city government, as well as exquisite completion gifts provided in collaboration with outdoor gear retailers. Lin Xiaoqi, Director of the Tourism Bureau, said that Mayor Yanzi is inviting hikers from various fields to join in climbing the Seven Peaks of Guguan, challenging themselves and promoting both physical and mental well-being.
At today’s press conference, Taichung City Councilors He Wenhai and Ran Lingxuan, Tourism Bureau Director Lin Xiaoqi, Sports Bureau Director Li Yu?, and He Jianrong, President of the Taichung Senior Hiking Association, among others, transformed into hikers to raise the completion flag, symbolizing the official launch of the event. Representatives from hiking associations across northern, central, and southern Taiwan, along with outdoor gear vendors, gathered to promote mountain tourism in Taichung, creating a lively atmosphere.
Lin Xiaoqi stated that in recent years, mountain tourism has been growing in popularity in Taiwan. In line with the “2020 Ridge Mountains Tourism Year” initiative by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, this year’s event theme is “2019 Guguan Seven Peaks Hiking Fun — Mountain Tourism Comes to Taichung.” The Guguan area in Taichung boasts beautiful scenery and a refreshing climate that many long to experience. Aside from the renowned Guguan Hot Springs, there are also seven mid-level mountains located on both sides of the Dajia River, including Bagua Mountain, Ma Mountain, Wuwomei Mountain, Bojinjia Mountain, Dongmao Mountain, Baimao Mountain, and Tangmading Mountain. Collectively known as the “Seven Peaks of Guguan,” hikers can enjoy stunning forest views along the way and gaze upon the majestic Dajia River from the summits.
This event is divided into two categories: completing three peaks and completing all seven peaks. Participants who finish climbing by February 29, 2020, and submit relevant proof will receive a “Completion Pin” for finishing three peaks. Those who complete all seven peaks will not only get the “Completion Pin,” but will also be awarded a “Completion Certificate” and a “Conquest Badge” by the city government, symbolizing the honor of conquering all seven peaks.
Through official completion certification, the city government aims to encourage more hikers and citizens to take on the challenge, boosting the national recognition of the mountainous areas in Heping District. The event has also partnered with outdoor gear businesses to offer participants discounts on related products and completion gifts, ensuring a rewarding and healthy experience.
The Sports Bureau reminds participants that the difficulty levels of the “Seven Peaks of Guguan” vary. The shortest hike takes about three hours round trip, while the longest can take eight to nine hours. Hikers are advised to assess their physical condition and the weather before setting out and should never push themselves too hard.
The Tourism Bureau announced that the event will host three mountain tourism lectures at 3 PM on December 18, 2019, and at 2 PM and 3:40 PM on January 11, 2020, at Taoyuan Outdoor Hiking Camping and Travel Gear Store. The lectures will feature guest speakers such as optimistic hiker Lü Zhonghan, representatives from the Taichung Senior Hiking Association, and the Chinese Taipei Mountain Rescue Association, who will share insights on hiking equipment, safety, and rescue. All hiking enthusiasts are welcome to attend.
