Nestled within Zhongshan District in Taipei, Liaoning Street comes alive as the noisy and vibrant Liaoning Night Market after dark. But what many don’t realize is that this very street also harbors a trove of fantastic food spots — some even open in the morning, long before the nightlife kicks in. These early-opening gems serve the stomachs of countless nearby office workers. Among them, this traditional bean vermicelli noodle shop offers an old-school taste that takes us back in time. Today, let’s join the HowToTrip editor (景编) and dig in together!

Bean vermicelli noodles are truly a nostalgic, childhood favorite.

Liaoning Street Bean Vermicelli Noodles is right on Liaoning Street. The shop’s sign features a simple handwritten menu. At first, I (景编) just walked by thinking I’d grab some roast goose, but when I stepped inside, I discovered that roast goose and stir-fried dishes are only available in the evening. During the day, it’s actually a retro noodle stall specializing in traditional bean vermicelli noodles.

The owners handle the lunchtime rush with remarkable efficiency.

The shop mainly serves bean vermicelli noodles, along with braised pork rice, various side dishes, and blanched greens. It’s a charming, old-school eatery with about seven or eight tables. Though it gets pretty crowded at noon, the quick table turnover means you won’t have to wait too long. We also spotted plenty of regulars coming specifically for takeout.

A simple yet extraordinary deliciousness.

In my childhood memories, bean vermicelli noodles were like cooled-down wheat noodles topped with bean sprouts and drizzled with the shop’s special soy sauce — a traditional, simple, refreshing dish that was anything but ordinary.

How can you not order some pork cheek with your veggies?

Since my memory of bean vermicelli noodles was stuck in my childhood, I decided to look up the dish’s origins. It turns out bean vermicelli noodles originally came from the border area between Tainan and Chiayi — particularly around Xinying, Liujia, and Da-nei.
