This championship is jointly organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Zhejiang Provincial Sports Bureau, and the People’s Government of Wenzhou City, and co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC, the Wenzhou Municipal Sports Bureau, and other organizations. It is titled the “Wenzhou Bank Cup.” This marks the first national A-level event hosted in Wenzhou during the Year of the Dragon, and also the first national sporting event held after the completion of the Wenzhou Daxiashan National Fitness Trail, inviting athletes and teams from across the country.
Li Zhixin, director of the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, stated that the opening ceremony of the 2012 National Mountain Outdoor Sports Championship will be held at Wenzhou Century Square on April 13. At that time, a total of 125 athletes and coaches from 25 professional outdoor sports teams across the country will gather in Wenzhou. Over the course of three days, they will compete in scenic areas such as the Ou-Rui River, Sanyang Wetland, Daxiashan Mountain, and Zeya — showcasing their skills across 10 competitive events including cross-country running, mountain biking/running relays, kayaking, mountain biking, mountaineering, waterfall rappelling, speed descending, zip-lining, rafting, and stream tracing, highlighting the heroism of outdoor sports elites.
It is understood that the construction of the Wenzhou Daxiashan National Hiking and Fitness Trail follows the approach of “unified planning, unified standards, and phased implementation,” to be completed in two phases, with a total length exceeding 120 kilometers. The first phase, spanning 45 kilometers, commenced construction in September 2011 and was completed by the end of November the same year, with an investment of 4.61 million yuan funded by municipal sports lottery public welfare funds.
The “Wenzhou Bank Cup” 2012 National Mountain Outdoor Sports Championship is themed “Explore Wenzhou · Challenge Yourself.” Amidst the dynamic, uniquely charming, and thrilling mountain outdoor competitions, the competition will also showcase the beauty of Ou-Yue landscapes, the natural scenery of late spring in the Jiangnan region, and the cultural geography of Wenzhou. Through the process of challenging themselves, participants will experience a brand-new Wenzhou.
According to Chen Xiangdong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, Wenzhou, with its long history and profound cultural heritage, is striving to become a city rich in culture. Hosting the 2012 Mountain Outdoor Sports Championship in Wenzhou plays a positive role in promoting the area’s landscape and tourism resources, and enhancing Wenzhou’s reputation. Leveraging this event, the Daxiashan National Hiking Trail will gradually become a nationally renowned leisure and fitness brand. The competition coincides with the 2012 China (Wenzhou) Forest Tourism Festival. The partnership between the sporting event and the forest tourism festival will greatly elevate the quality of both the tourism offerings and the sporting competition. A spectacular event can not only attract sports enthusiasts to fully experience Wenzhou’s rich regional culture and unique beautiful natural scenery, but also aligns with the “quest for novelty, fun, and excitement” sought by travel lovers. The hosting of the “Wenzhou Bank Cup” 2012 National Mountain Outdoor Sports Championship in Wenzhou will boost the development of Wenzhou’s culture and make an important contribution to the advancement of mountain outdoor sports and national fitness initiatives in China.
