On June 7, 2012, the much-anticipated "Red Bull 24-Hour" Plateau Challenge will be ceremoniously held at the Jiaozi Snow Mountain Scenic Area in Kunming, Yunnan Province. The Red Bull 24-Hour is China’s only non-stop outdoor competition that lasts through day and night. This year, it makes its first appearance in the high-altitude region of Yunnan, with the competition site averaging 3,500 meters above sea level. At that time, the "Red Bull 24-Hour" will lead domestic extreme sports enthusiasts into the plateau for an all-weather, all-terrain, all-sport extreme experience at high altitude.
The event is divided into professional and experience groups, with a total of 20 teams participating and a course of approximately 55 kilometers. The race adopts the continuous (non-stop) format of the Ecomotion adventure race, featuring a team-based, uninterrupted racing system. Teams of four members each will set their own pace and complete a series of professionally demanding activities—including run-bike combinations, nighttime orienteering, fixed-point climbing, rock climbing, rope descents, as well as skill-based events such as puzzles and archery—within 24 hours as a team. Especially challenging is the continuous 24-hour competition at altitudes above 3,500 meters on the plateau, which poses the most severe test to the participants’ physical and mental endurance.
It is reported that the "Red Bull 24-Hour Plateau Challenge" originated from the 2006 "Dynamic Kunming" Jiaozi Snow Mountain Crossing Challenge. Due to Yunnan’s unique outdoor resources and mountainous terrain, the Red Bull 24-Hour, after hosting a coastal challenge in Shenzhen last year, quickly turned its attention to Yunnan and ultimately selected Jiaozi Snow Mountain. The area not only features a rich variety of terrains such as high-altitude mountains, canyons, streams, and cliffs, but also presents a significant challenge to the professional abilities and overall quality of the participants, while offering all outdoor enthusiasts a unique sporting experience. It is expected that nearly 500 outdoor sports enthusiasts from Yunnan, Guizhou, Xinjiang, Sichuan, and other regions will compete in this event, vying for multiple prizes up for grabs.
The professional outdoor brand KAILAS, as the strategic partner of this event, will provide professional outdoor gear including apparel, offering full support to ensure the success of the competition amid complex terrains and environments at altitudes exceeding 3,500 meters.
