Taiwan’s most iconic “Taipei New Year’s Eve Countdown – 2020” series of events has officially kicked off. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je and talented singer-songwriter Wei Yu-xuan together lit up Taipei’s Christmas main light and the 3,000-meter-long street light display along the streets, marking the beginning of Taipei’s New Year countdown festivities.
A British design team, CoolShit, is making its first appearance in Taiwan, creating an oversized art installation inspired by “The Rock” (pictured / Taipei City – the same below)
Taipei is the first city in Taiwan to kick off its New Year countdown celebrations. The event runs from November 9 through January 1 of the following year, featuring a wealth of activities in the East District and Xinyi District, as well as countless photo-worthy spots.
The theme concept of the “Taipei New Year’s Eve Countdown – 2020” event is “Here We Mixed It Up – TAIPEI X TAIPEI,” with cross-boundary integration running throughout the entire celebration. This year, from the early-stage light displays, art installations, and collaborations with artists, to the multimedia, performing arts, and other elements on the night of December 31, all are the result of collaborations between masters and celebrities, showcasing the spirit of cross-genre fusion to the fullest.
City – Light-Up
This year breaks from previous formats with the specially planned pre-countdown event “TaipeiXmas.” Stretching from around the Taipei City Hall along Ren’ai Road to the East District shopping area, over 3,000 meters of street lighting have been installed. For the first time, dual-color LED lights with gradient effects are used to create a magical and romantic sea of lights. Meanwhile, at Top One Plaza, the event’s main visual has been extended into a main light display, with spectacular light shows playing every 15 minutes starting at 5:30 PM daily.
Additionally, the British sculpture balloon team – CoolShit – is making its first visit to Taiwan. Drawing inspiration from Hollywood star “The Rock,” they have designed a striking, nine-meter-tall large-scale art installation at Longmen Plaza.
